Here is week 2 of at home learning for our last summer term! Remember task 1 is what we would like you to complete, task 2 and weekly challenges are optional - they are there for the extra challenge. If you require any support with any of the learning provided, please do get in contact with us and we will get back to you as soon as we can.

Guided Reading

Task 1 - Read The Giant Panda Bear

The weeks are just flying by and we yet again we are back with a new text! Very excited about this one as it is all about...PANDAS! As always, today is reading day. Ask someone in your household to read the text to you first, then you read the text aloud back to them. Then read once more by each taking it in turns reading a line at a time.

Task 1 - Read and Watch 'What do you Want to Be''

Read What do you want to be? Can you find it's rhythm as you read? Try reading in your head and then out loud. Now watch the poet perform his poem, the link for this is below. Did the poem sound like you expected to? What did you notice about Wilf Merttens’ performance?

Task 1 -  Answer Poetry Questions

Read the Poetry Questions and think about your answers. Write your answers in clear sentences. All resources for these tasks are on the document below (Year 5 Week 5 Day 1)

Task 2 - Letter to Wilf Merttens and Fun Time Extras

There are extra activities for you to complete (on the document - Year 5 Week 5 Day 1) and directions on how to do so, should you want to.

Maths - Short Division (Bus Stop Method)

This week we will be practicing our short division skills. We will need our times table skills and our fraction knowledge

to help us. Please look at the lessons on MyMaths, the games on ActiveLearn and use Reflex to help you. Do your best, work at your own pace and take lots of breaks.

Task 1 - MyMaths

Please look at Short Division, Division Remainders and Interpreting Remainders.  These will help you with your work this week. If you can't get on to MyMaths to practice please watch these two videos to remind you of the bus stop method of short division.

Task 2 - Short Division Fluency Practice.

Some of these questions have remainders, you will need to turn them into fractions. Check out the video if you need to or message us for help reminding you of what to do. Do 5 then check your answers to see if you are on the right track.

Weekly Challenge - Remainder Runners

Looking for all those Challenge Champions out there - you have a week to complete so take your time. Don't forget to message us if you need help!
