Here is week 2 of at home learning for our last summer term! Remember task 1 is what we would like you to complete, task 2 and weekly challenges are optional - they are there for the extra challenge. If you require any support with any of the learning provided, please do get in contact with us and we will get back to you as soon as we can.
Task 1 - Genre of Text and Vocabulary
Read the text again and identify what genre of text it is? Is it a non-chronological report? Is it a poem? Once you have determined the genre of text - ask yourself; how do you know? What features did you identify that made you think it was this particular genre. Write your answers in full sentences. Then, pick 5 words you are unsure the meaning of, find synonyms for them first (without looking in a dictionary) and replace them with your own synonyms. Does the sentence still make sense? If it does - you know your probably right! Just to be sure - check the meaning of the work in a dictionary after.
Task 1 - Read Mother to Son
Read the poem: Mother to Son. What message is there in the poem? Listen to the poem being performed. Does it sound like you expected? The link for this is below. Open the document below: Year 5 Week 5 Day 2 for all of today's English resources.
Task 1 - Read Keep On Keeping On and Answer the Questions
Read the poem Keep on keeping on by Michael Sage and answer the questions on it. The resources for this can be found on the Year 5 Week 5 Day 2 document below.
Task 2 - Quotations and Fun Time Extras
There are extra activities for you to complete (on the document - Year 5 Week 5 Day 2) and directions on how to do so, should you want to.
Maths - Short Division (Bus Stop Method)
This week we will be practicing our short division skills. We will need our times table skills and our fraction knowledge
to help us. Please look at the lessons on MyMaths, the games on ActiveLearn and use Reflex to help you. Do your best, work at your own pace and take lots of breaks. Don't forget the videos posted Monday to help you.
Task 1 - Page 55/56
There are a range of questions here so you'll need all your maths skills. Fraction remainders, word problems and reasoning! Lots to do so take your time, do a couple in each section and check your answers before you continue. If you have got some wrong try and see where you made your mistake.
Task 2 - ActiveLearn or Reflex
Use these games to practice your multiplication and division skills. You all should have your passwords BUT if you can't find them please message us.
