Here is week 2 of at home learning for our last summer term! Remember task 1 is what we would like you to complete, task 2 and weekly challenges are optional - they are there for the extra challenge. If you require any support with any of the learning provided, please do get in contact with us and we will get back to you as soon as we can.

Guided Reading

Task 1 - Answer Questions 2 - 9

Read the text once more and start answering questions 2 - 9. Stop and think about each question carefully and ask yourself: what skills do I need to answer this question successfully? Is it retrieval? Is it inference? Is it word choice and meaning? If it asks you to quote the text - quote the text and answer in full sentences.

English

Task 1 - Read Hold Fast to Dreams

Read Hold Fast to Dreams. What is the message of this poem? Re-read it, really thinking about each line. What do you like about this poem? Is there anything that you dislike? What patterns can you spot? All resources for today's English task are on the document: Year 5 Week 5 Day 3

Task 1 - Plan and Write your Own Poem 'Life Without Dreams'

Plan a poem called, ‘Life Without Dreams’. On the Planning Frame write metaphors for a life without dreams and verbs that could show dreams ending. Use the revision sheet as well to help remind you about metaphors and similes. Use the Ideas Sheets to help you and get started. Now try turning your ideas into a poem. Choose your best ideas and see how they could fit and flow together. Please share your brilliant poems with us! We can't wait to read them! Open the document Year 5 Week 5 Day 3 below for all of the above resources.

Task 2 - Fun Time Extras

There are extra activities for you to complete (on the document - Year 5 Week 5 Day 3) and directions on how to do so, should you want to.

Maths - Short Division (Bus Stop Method)

This week we will be practicing our short division skills. We will need our times table skills and our fraction knowledge

to help us. Please look at the lessons on MyMaths, the games on ActiveLearn and use Reflex to help you. Do your best, work at your own pace and take lots of breaks. Don't forget the videos posted Monday to help you.

Task 1 - Page 57

This time your reminders are to be shown as whole numbers not fractions. Remember to do 3 in each section and check the answers before continuing. Make sure you do the THINK question, use the inverse (opposite) operation to check your calculations.

Task 2 - Finding Factors Page 47

Make sure you have tried the MyMaths lesson on factors and primes to help you. Look at the video below to help you before you have a go at the questions.
