Wednesday 3rd February

Wednesday 3rd February 2021

I have started putting times next to the lessons – these are by no means set in concrete but some children have asked for them to be used as a guide.

MORNING (8:50 to 11:55)

Guided Reading. (9:00 – 9:20)  We’ll be working together in class, zapping the questions. For this, make sure you have the set of questions in front of you (on screen or paper)

English  (9:20 – 10:20)

To explore using pronouns (relative and possessive pronouns)

In this lesson, children will define key word classes, review knowledge of personal and possessive pronouns and then edit a short paragraph using pronouns to avoid repetition.

BREAK (10:20 – 10:40)

Maths (10:40 – 11:40)

Strategies for addition

In this lesson pupils will review a range of strategies to solve addition problems. As always, see the Emmanuel website for any challenges (see the link below)

If you are still not 100% sure with rounding, have a go at this lesson instead:

Rounding 5-digit numbers to the nearest 100, 1000 and 10 000

In this lesson, we will be using number lines to round 5-digit numbers to the nearest multiple of 100, 1000 and 10 000. We will also investigate rounding in the context of word problems.

Read in an extreme place! We have had some fantastic photos of people reading in weird and wonderful places. Make sure you read for a minimum of 15 minutes and record it in your reading diary.
If you do not have a reading book at home, or prefer to read an eBook, please log in to

Your teacher will let you know your login details.
Alternatively, check out the books, magazines, comics and audiobooks on Sheffield library (you will need to set up your own account with your parents email and your library card number)

AFTERNOON (1:00 – 3:00)

REFLEX (1:00 – 1:15)
Try and complete 15 minutes of reflex.

ACTIVE LEARN (1:15 – 1:30)

Geography – (1:30 – 2:30)

Plan a letter with recommendations for greater sustainability to my local MP

In this lesson, we are going to be using the information we have learned about sustainable cities and the information you have gathered about your own local area to plan a letter to your local MP.

Afternoon zoom: 2:30 – 3:00

Optional after school activity

As it's Children's Mental Health Week, why not create a colourful poster that might inspire other children that live in your area. Use Mrs Andrews or Rev Jen's assemblies for inspiration if you would like to.

Please post your pictures on your portfolio for us all to get inspired :-)

Please visit the Emmanuel website for any worksheets, word banks, extra resources and extra challenges.

Maths Extension Challenges - make sure you message your teacher if you're not too sure :-)
