Vision

At Emmanuel Junior Academy, PSHE isn’t just a subject; it is a mindset which is engrained in to the whole ethos of the school. We strive to create a safe community where pupils feel courageous enough to share their opinions, fears and dreams and are respectful to those of others. Children are supported to push themselves out of their comfort zones to reach their goals and are guided to ensure they have the appropriate vocabulary and understanding to be able to express themselves clearly in any situation. Emotional well-being is extremely important and all children are supported to develop their own emotional regulation techniques and calming strategies.

Within individual sessions, we practise the skills required to be competent communicators, moral citizens and resilient individuals in an environment where there are no right or wrong answers and everyone’s perspective is considered with empathy and an open mind. We support our children to develop their mindfulness and establish a growth mindset which will stay with them in the future. We want children to leave our school being able to embrace the differences of the world around them and know their own value and the difference they can make in their society.

PSHE (Including RSHE) Curriculum:

At Emmanuel Junior Academy, we use Jigsaw to help us deliver our Personal, Social and Health Education (PSHE) and the statutory expectations for primary schools for the delivering of the Relationships, Health & Sex Education (RSHE) curriculum.

Designed as a whole-school approach, Jigsaw PSHE / Health and Wellbeing provides a detailed and comprehensive scheme of learning for ages 3-16. Jigsaw provides well-structured, progressive lesson plans with all teaching resources included. Jigsaw is a unique, spiral, progressive and effective scheme of work, aiming to prepare children/young people for life, helping them really know and value who they are and understand how they relate to other people in this ever-changing world.

The Jigsaw Programme is aligned to the PSHE Association Programmes of Study for PSHE.

It is also aligned with the Church of England’s “A CHARTER FOR FAITH SENSITIVE AND INCLUSIVE RELATIONSHIPS EDUCATION, RELATIONSHIPS AND SEX EDUCATION (RSE) AND HEALTH EDUCATION (RSHE)” and draws on the advice given in the Church of England document ‘Valuing All God’s Children: Guidance for Church of England schools on challenging homophobic, biphobic and transphobic bullying’
